Trucking Transportation and Its Role Today
Commercial trucking is huge in America today. Think about all the products that you’ve come to know in stores, and how they come from other states to hit the shelves in your area. Without expedited trucking services, there would very little on our shelves, as most of what we have today comes from other states across the country. Expedited freight companies are responsible for nearly everything we buy today and keep the world running exactly as it should. Many of these companies also work in an expedited international way and ship in products from other countries so we have a wide assortment of products from all over the world, from the food we eat to the furniture we use to furnish our house.
In 2013, trucking transported around 15 billion tons of cargo and this is expected to transform to around 18 billion pounds by 2040, seeing as trucking is always growing. An assortment of 12 million trucks, rail cars, locomotives, and vessels travel with goods across the country today. Across the U.S., approximately 5.9 million motor vehicle drivers operate large commercial vehicles. Some of the most popular items that are moved within the states are machinery, electronics, and motorized vehicles. With so many commercial trucks on the roadways, many needs fulfilled but there is also a lot at risk. Expedited freight services and other types of shipping may drive our economy, but you often hear that many accidents happen on the roadways with large commercial vehicles every year. Expedited trucking transportation is risky business because tractor trailers are on the road for long hours at a time, sometimes even on unfamiliar roads that they have never traversed before.
Why Trucking is Important
Perhaps most of the accidents involving trucks on our roadways are due to the negligence of other drivers who are not watchful of truckers and abide by the rules of the road. However, no matter what, we have to realize that without truckers, we would not have the items we do today in our favorite stores. It has to get there somehow. This is why expedited trucking transportation is especially important in our society, and we would not be able to function normally without.
